Installing Fabric with the Minecraft Launcher
Setting up Fabric is quick and flexible. The official installer lets you choose both the Minecraft version and the Fabric Loader version, so you don’t have to hunt down specific builds yourself. Once downloaded, the installer works across every supported release, from the latest snapshots to long-term stable builds.
From Official Website
You have two main choices when grabbing the installer:
- Universal JAR – works on any operating system with Java installed. Perfect if you’re on Linux, macOS, or just prefer the classic
.jar
approach. - Windows Installer – a lightweight
.exe
version designed for players who want a faster, one-click setup on Windows machines.

After installation, Fabric Loader will appear as a new profile in your Minecraft Launcher. From here, you can add mods to your mods
folder. Keep in mind that most Fabric mods also require the Fabric API a library that provides common hooks and features mods rely on.
Other Installation Methods
Fabric can also be used with different launchers and tools, depending on your setup:
- Popular multi-launchers such as CurseForge, GDLauncher, and ATLauncher support Fabric modpacks directly.
- Tools like MultiMC and Technic allow advanced users to manage multiple instances with Fabric pre-configured.
- For server administrators and developers, options like portablemc (command line) and the Metadata API (for launcher devs) offer more control.
- If you’re hosting a multiplayer server, don’t forget that Fabric Server installation follows a slightly different process, which we explain in our server guide.
Final Tip
No matter which method you pick, always make sure to match the Minecraft version, Fabric Loader, and Fabric API correctly. A mismatch is the most common reason mods fail to load.
